| This thesis endeavors to make a tentative study on reproducing in English theartistic ideorealm of Su Shi’s ci-poetry by adopting Chinese classical poetic andaesthetic theories.Artistic ideorealm is difficult to define, but it is not mysterious. In brief, it is aseamless artistic ensemble evoked by the fusion of subjective feelings and objectivescenes. Song ci-poetry is the gem of classical Chinese literature. Inspired by thetraditional Chinese theory of artistic ideorealm, the author believes that artisticideorealm should be regarded as the main criteria in Song ci-poetry translation since itis the soul of Song ci-poetry.Su Shi’s ci-poetry is of unique charm because they are the natural outpourings ofhis heart. The deep and rich artistic ideorealm his ci-poetry possessed can be roughlyclassified into three categories, namely, Qingkuang(clear and broad-minded), Qingya(clear and graceful) and Qingxin (clear and fresh). The author tries to examine thereproduction of artistic ideorealm of Su Shi’s ci-poetry from different perspectives:On the linguistic level, the author tries to focus on rhyme scheme, choice ofwords, grammatical structure, and figures of speech. On the aesthetic level, taking thethree aesthetic features of artistic ideorealm of Song ci-poetry into consideration,the author tries to focus on the reproduction of beauty of images and emotions,including the reproduction of beauty of various types of images, image combination(image superposition, image juxtaposition and image radiation), image blank (blank inimage and blank between images) and the reproduction of beauty of emotions.In summary, the successful reproduction of the artistic ideorealm of Songci-poetry is based on a thorough understanding. On that basis, on the linguistic level,details related to rhyme, wording, grammar and figures of speech should be dealt withproperly; on the aesthetic level, the degree of externalization should be paid specialattention to; in addition, the context factors should be taken into consideration and a microscopic view should be adopted. |
