Study On The Application Of Traditional Graphic Elements Inthe Modern CG Illustration

It is said that "something that is ethnic is of the word". Indeed, the art featured in ethnic characteristics is the most appalling and vigorous. Inflecting human being’s yearning for good life, traditional graphics, both in form and artistic spirits, inherit profound cultural foundation of China that lasts for5000years and ethnic spirit of simplicity, diligence and goodness. Nowadays, traditional graphics of China are not only existing and specific graphics and signs. Dunhuang Flying apsaras and shadow puppets, theoretical facial masks and choppy babies in Yang Liuqing New Year Paintings, are all traditional graphics with Chinese characteristics. Featured in ethnic characteristics, all are rich in both visual form and implication, being decorative and symbolic. Influenced by dynastic changes and cultural environment throughout history, preference for aesthetics of traditional graphics are completely different, but these traditional graphics are full of striking aesthetic sensation and vitality.The development of computer technology facilitates the combination of digital technology and art in illustration industry and generates a new artistic form that created in the age of high technology. Modern CG illustrations refer to illustrations created by computer, with a visual form of digital realization provided by new technology. As one of the main stream in illustration industry, CG illustrations can create dizziness in visual effects with absolute technology advantage in CG fast developing era. The impeccable image processing power of CG illustrations is far beyond that of traditional illustrations. Modern CG illustrations were originally applied by developed countries. CG illustration industry in developed countries booms, while in China, it is just in exploring period. CG illustrations in China are imitations in both styles and techniques, which results in the fact that nobody will associate them with oriental style and culture. The profound beauty of art and culture does not reflect its unique glamour in Chinese modern CG illustrations.This article mainly makes contrastive analysis of artistic value of traditional graphics at home and abroad, culture heritage and different characteristics, and then analyses the status quo and existing problems of traditional graphics applied in modern illustrations, emphasizing the necessity of combining traditional graphics and modern CG illustrations as well as inheriting culture. Finally, to explore and study how to make a better combination, carrying forward ethnic characteristics as well as developing and inheriting the artistic form of Chinese ethnic featured CG illustrations.
