A Study Of The Seal Script On Stela In The Song(宋) Dynasty

Inscriptions of the seal script in the Song（宋）Dynasty are numerousand rich in content, which saves a lot of seal characters. This papercollected211pieces of clear, complete rubbings and photographs of stonecarvings. From these materials, the paper distills more than2058sealcharacters and about6500shapes. Firstly, the characters were adjustedto the appropriate size and arranged according to the order of the14volumes of Xu Xuan’s annotated Shuowen jiezi（大徐本《說文解字》）.Secondly, the paper compares the characters with the seal script inShuowen jiezi（《說文解字》）and previous periods on the basis of fullymastering the original material. Finally, through the collation andanalysis of the Song（宋）Dynasty seal characters on stela, the papersummarizes the characteristics of it.The paper has four chapters in total. The first chapter is theintroduction, which introduces the concept of the seal script used in thepaper, the research status, sources of materials and research methods.The second part shows the number and type of the Song（宋）Dynasty sealinscriptions, and establishes three tables to describe the detailedinformation of the materials such as sources, age, name and so on. Thethird part is the research of the seal characters, which compares thecharacters with the seal script in Shuowen jiezi（《說文解字》）and previousperiods. On the basis of comparison, the paper summarizes thecharacteristics of the seal script on stela in the Song（宋）Dynasty. Thelast chapter is the table of the seal script on stela in the Song（宋）Dynasty.It is the first time that the seal script on stela in the Song Dynastywas regarded as an independent object. The paper collects inscriptionsof the seal script in the Song Dynasty as much as possible. In this way,it is helpful for people to know about the seal characters and inscriptionsin this period.
