| This is a translation project report on the introduction part of Translation andthe Languages of Modernism: Gender, Politics, Language written by Americanscholar Steven. G. Yao. This book is an academic monograph, of which theintroduction part is mainly on the relevant background as well as the practice andfunctions of literary translation of modernism. As the source text of this translationproject belongs to informative text, the author adopts different translation strategiesaccordingly to achieve the best communicative effect. With examples, this reportmainly addresses the translation of names of persons according to three principles,namely “to follow the professional standardâ€,“to follow the pronunciation of theowners of namesâ€, and “to follow the established popular translated namesâ€; it alsodiscusses the translation of long sentences based on two methods, namely “translationaccording to the logic of sentences†and “amplificationâ€, which is aimed at providingsome references for the translation of academic texts. |
