| This report is based on the author’s experience as an interpreter for a Tianjin-based company. It consists of four parts:task description, process description, difficulties and coping strategies, and service feedback.The first chapter gives a description of the interpreting task. It includes the client, the direct users of the interpreting service and relevant information of the task.The second chapter mainly describes the process of the task. It gives a detailed depiction of the author’s preparation and the whole interpreting activity, ranging from contract signing, speech delivery, business negotiation, and factory investigation to banquet reception. The Skopos Theory is adopted to explain how an interpreter should use different strategies to cope with various situations and achieve the best result.The third chapter discusses the difficulties encountered in the whole process, such astechnical terms, Chinese banquet and suggests the requirements for both the client and the interpreter. The fourth chapter includes feedbacks from the client and foreign customers.In conclusion, the author points out that practical experience is an essential part of interpreter training. The improvement of students’ interpreting ability depends not only on the efforts of students, but on the curriculum setting of the training program. The combination of theory study and real-time practices can help students better prepared for unexpected situations, and make them more qualified for interpreting tasks. |
