The first sentence of the Annotations to Taijitu caused the biggest debate firstly about Zhou Dunyi’s works. The biggest focus of the debate is either zhou’s thought belongs to Confucianism or Taoism. Later, Zhu Xi and Lu Jiuyuan had a debate about’Wuji’ and’Taichi’. Since then, many Scholars discussed about this. And then, the debate about Taijitu starts. Obviously, the contents Taijitu and Annotations to Taijitu expressed are different from what Tongshu expressed. In Tonshu, Zhou Dunyi put emphasis from Heaven ontology of Annotations to Taijitu to Temperamental ontology. He renewed the meaning of’honesty’and created a new Temperamental ontology. The truthful Heaven ontology gives human beings truthfulness and honesty. The’honesty’gives the Confucianism which is more and more degressive since Han and Tang dynasties a new strength to develop. But there are so many thoughts of the Annotations to Taijitu and Taijitu be from Metaphysics, Taoism and Taoist. So there’s a big question about Zhou dunyi’s thoughts that is how we understand it under so many uncertainties.Since Qin to Han and Tang dynasties, the development of Confucianism began to not be able to compete with Buddhism and Taoism. The thought of Metaphysics, Taoism and Taoist, Buddhist penetrated each area of the society in those eras, which made the development of traditional Confucianism be in crisis. So the neo-Confucian scholars of the Song and Ming dynasties begin a new try. Zhou Dunyi’s Heaven ontology and Temperamental ontology based on’honesty’are in this context of a new try about theory. Not only he elevated ’honesty’to the status of Heaven body and the Ontological, but also changed the original significance of the’honesty’.’Road’and’De’are come from’honesty’. Compare to’Road’and’De’as moral practice which contact with group, the contact between ’honesty’and individuals is more fundamental. The’emptiness and quiet’in the thought of Zhou Dunyi is not only a requirement for individual to return to the’honesty’, but also a bridge between individual (saint) and group (outside).
