In recent decades, the economic and cultural exchanges between China and Russiahave become increasingly frequent with progress in both countries. The broad range ofexchange activity expands from trade on individual level to cultural exchanges oncommunity level. The two governments are focused on introduction and development ofrelated effective policies.The Chinese culture has gained enormous attention with rapid rise of China’sinternational status, increasing global role of China and increasing interest to invest inChina for long term profit. The difference between Chinese culture and foreign cultureshas also become a hot research topic and afforded various interesting projects.The in-depth and systematic study of Chinese and Russian name culture can expandand enrich name research. The outcome will facilitate the understanding of deep culturalconnotation of China and Russia; help eliminate bias and negative factors incross-cultural communication between China and Russia, assistance in teaching ofChinese as well as Russian language and preparation of relevant teaching material.The research of Chinese and Russian names involves following disciplines:lexicology, semantics, phonetics, language typology and sociolinguistics. The researchinvolves two methods i.e. the last analysis and comparative study law. In addition tointroduction, this study comprises of following five parts:Part I–Chinese names. This chapter includes origin, history, and structure of theChinese name. The understanding of Chinese names requires tracing its historicaldevelopment and changes.Part II–Russian names. This chapter examines the sources and structure of theRussian name.Part III–Russian and Chinese names transliteration problems. Translation is an important communication tool between various countries and international cultures. Thename translation is a very important issue in the communication process. This chapterexplores the Russian names (including surname and patronymic), problems oftranslating Russian names into Chinese and Chinese names into Russian. Theseproblems often cause difficulties in the translation process. We will analyze someexamples to discuss the focus of Sino-Russian name translation, the characteristics ofthe analysis of the names, reflected gender characteristics and associated issues.Part IV─Chinese and Russian names change and its cultural connotationsdifference. China and Russia have a50years history of change and development.Part V─Conclusion. This section forecasts the development trend of Chinese andRussian name culture in future.
