Testing is an important link in the process of teaching, joining testing in the teachingprocess is mainly for examining the learning achievement and understanding while studentsstudy in a period of time. In 1967, through An Experiment, psychologists Tulving explored thepromotion that testing do for free recall. It found joining testing in the process of teachingpurposefully can promote students to consolidate the Already learn knowledge. So he proposedthe“testing effect”. Later, the Scholars proving the testing effect from different aspects by usingdifferent experiment material and the sequence of trials. Psychologists and educationalists allhope using the Positive Side of testing effect in the teaching practice to promote the teachingpreferably.The Literature Review of this text mainly discusses the conception of testing effects,summarizes the histories of the researches and expounds the research method of testing effects.The researches of testing effects abroad do more than inland; especially the researches forprimary are scarcely seen. In consideration of such a situation, experiment one employs a safersequence of trials which is SSST/STST/STTT used by Tulving in 1967 on his researches. Themainly purpose of the experiment is trying to proving the existence of the testing.Experiment two improves the insufficient of experiment one and investigates the promotion ofthe testing for pupils’learning in practical education environment. Experiment two uses thesequence of SS/ST which is corresponded with teaching in practice. Besides, the experimenttakes English words as the experimental material, the setting of the experiment environment alsotry to approach the real classroom environment as far as possible. It uses the multimedia to teachand to do the concentrated test, combining the met cognition characteristics of pupils to do thecomprehensive survey.Research findings:1. Experiment one verifies the promotion which testing doing for the learning of the pupils.During the same time interval, the score of test group is higher than the learning group.This experiment proving the existence of testing effect.2. The result of experiment two proves that the score of learning group is higher than the testgroup in the instant test of five minutes and one day, but the test group is better than the learning group in the delayed test of one week which is consistent with the testing effect:Test can promote students’ long-term memory.3. Experiment two also examines the relationship between the met cognition level of thestudents and the test. The experimental results show that in the experimental process theJOL scores of learning-learning group is higher than the learning-testing group. Thelearning group has more confidence for their memory.4. The JOL score before the immediate test, learning-learning group is still higher thanlearning-testing group, but after one test the score of learning-learning group becomeslower than learning-testing group, especially in the delayed test of one week, the gap ismore significantly. The experiment proves that testing improves the students’learningconfidence in the delayed test.
