America returned part of Boxer Indemnity in1908, which made it possible for the Chinese students to go to study abroad. During the first30years in the20th century, Chinese students in America were organized in a variety of clubs and a united Alliance called Chinese Students’ Alliance. In addition, they published an English magazine named" Chinese Students’ Monthly", which is the only magazine edited in English by Chinese students. The Monthly is very important for learning about students’ life in America. The thesis takes the articles from The Monthly as the object of study to look into the Chinese students’ life condition in America, the relationship between students and China, and the students’ standpoint in education. Finally it will discuss about the value of this magazine.There are six parts in the paper. The first part is introduction. It mainly talks about the background and significance of this topic, summarizes the relevant research existed and the contents and methods in this study. Chapter1introduces the profile of The Monthly, including the social background and the history evolution of the magazine. The three parts from chapter2to chapter4are all based on the articles in The Monthly. Chapter2focuses on the life condition of the Chinese students in America. Chapter3traces the relationship between students abroad and their mother country which was suffering a lot because years of war. Chapter4studies the articles on education written by Chinese students abroad. The last part of the paper discusses about the value and significance of The Monthly in consideration of people at that time and the scholars today.
