Chinese Monthly is a magazine which has the long time of journal running and deep influences on Republic of China. This magazine complied by Zhu Ziqing and Ye shengtao and presented by KaiMing Bookstore, is a famous periodical on Chinese teaching during the period of anti-Japanese war.I, in this dissertation, tried straightening everything out in the periodical out to better evaluate it. The studies on teaching ideology presented in Chinese Monthly, reasons why Chinese middle-school students have little literacy, the debate between classic Chinese an d vernacular Chinese, the procedure of how textbooks should be compiled can served as a historical reference for contemporary Chines teaching in middle schools. For the further analysis of editorial idea and teaching viewpoints, This dissertation made a summary thro ugh analyzing Zhu Ziqing and Ye Shengtao's thought for education from three angles-rea ding, reciting and writing. That is, a student can compose an article better only through m ore reading and reciting and a burst of true feelings as well little literacy with Chinese in middle school students has something to heavy work load from their teachers, which is also an issue needed to be wiped off. The debate between vernacular Chinese and classic Chinese has also changed from sheer opposition against Classical Chinese to an ideology that joint efforts are need to make to protect traditional culture. This article also attempts to get some inspiration for Chinese teaching in middle schools by discussing the educational thinking and experience of scholars and teachers from Chinese Monthly during the Republic of China, as well as Chinese literature and literary essential knowledge.
