Shengjintu iron deposit located in the Xidoupu town of Baotou, Inner Mongoliabelonging to the North China Craton region is an important banded iron formations(BIF)concentration area.Iron ore body is single and generally small, but easy to mining.Through theresearch of rock geochemistry, petrography, ore mineralogy, author had a better understandingof Shengjintu iron ore deposits space distribution pattern of ore mineral composition andforming material source, and delineted prospecting prediction district and prospectingdirection.Shengjintu iron deposit occurred in the Dongwufenzi formation of Sertengshan rockgroup, formed in Neo-Archaean. It develops a series of amphibolite schist, patches of rockquartz amphiblite agnets,biotite-quartz schist,magnetite-quartzite and so on.Magnetite oreoutput with layered,lens-shaped.Ore seam and top roof have clear limited. In the diagram ofTFe-(CaO+MgO)-SiO2,Shengjintu BIF has a consistent distribution area with HanwangBIF,Anshan BIF and other BIF in the world. The REE contents of Shengjintu BIF arelow, showing characteristics of marine sediments in Archean. In the PAAS-normalizedREEpattern, LREE are depleted and HREE are enriched relatively, with strong Eu positiveanomaly, obvious Y positive anomaly and novisible Ce anomaly. These Shengjintu BIFcharacteristics are itentical with characteristics of Hanwang,Gongchangling inAnshan,Wutaishan and many other Archean BIF in the world. In trace elements distributiondiagram normalized by primary mantle,U,Ta,La and Ce have positive anomalies, whereasthings are just the opposite for Nb,Sr,Hf and Zr.The ratios of Ti/V,Ni/Co and some otherelements are also considered in this paper.A comprehensive study of Shengjintu BIF showsthat its ferruginous material was associated with volcanic hydrothermal solution and wasformed in a marine chemical sedimentary environment.Shengjintu BIF constitute an irondeposit of Algoma type.Ore body are strictly controlled by stratum-lithology,extended from eastern side towestern side.Geological characteristics are combined with metallogenic regularity, pointingout prospecting, preliminary delineation of ore bodies27.More than300m in length orebody5,numbered Fe1,Fe2,Fe4,Fe6,Fe23;average thickness greater than2m for Fe1andFe25.Delineation four prospecting zone at last.
