Wikipedia is a result of the collective wisdom of human, and it is a large-scaleencyclopedia which is most widely used in the world, it can be applied not only as ahigh quality corpus, but also as a thesaurus or ontology. The category structure ofWikipedia is investigated in this paper, with the aim to verify whether it meets thelaws of human collective wisdom, and we also can explore the cognitive rules ofhuman and society, and the underlying law of human thinking, which helps to revealthe structural feature and the evolution laws of the knowledge structure.The theory of complex networks can be used as a powerful tool to study thetopologies and dynamic properties of a complex system. We apply the theory ofknowledge ontology to analyze the category structure on several perspectives, such asthe topology and the community structure. The evolutionary trend of the categorystructure is also analyzed under the guidance of dynamics, in order to mine moreuseful laws.The complex network characteristics of the category structure are analyzed, thenthe features of small-world and scale-free are analyzed with the degree distributionand cluster distribution. The index of small-worldness and K-core decompositionmodels are applied to measure the evolutionary process from2004to2012, and thereasons of abnormal evolution are analyzed in details. We explore what factors cancontribute to the evolution of knowledge structure further.In terms of module, the community discovery algorithms are used to analyze thecommunity structure of the category structure, and we discuss the conditions whichshould be met when knowledge is formed as topics. Further an algorithm based on thecommunity discovery is proposed to analyze the evolutionary process of knowledgetopics, which helps to validate whether the evolutionary process meets the humancognitive rules of things, in order to make better use of Wikipedia to make morecontributions to human.
