From traditional desktop GIS to Web GIS, and then to a distributed GIS, theacronym GIS has another implication, namely Geographic Information Service.Cartography Service is an important application direction of Geographic InformationService. In order to meet their own needs, industries developed and customizedvarious kinds of cartography services according to their own characteristics. Thecartographic presentation of these services are not identical. In the face of thissituation, people try to develop various kinds of cartography standard specification,applying to normalize the expression of maps.Cartography standardization needs to achieve a national-level agreement, whichcan be carried on effectively. It requires a complete set of standard system andmature technology support system, which can achieve a national unification. In viewof the web service technology being maturely applied to many fields of GIS,standardized cartography can also be combined with web service technology, as torealize standards and technologies sharing in the field of cartography. However,simply combining the two technologies together is far from enough. It requires allthe cartography staff develops a series of standard and specification, includingsymbol standard and service standards and specifications which constitute acomplete set of web mapping service architecture. Under this architecture, everyindustry follows the basic, common standards and norms. At the premise of withoutaffecting mutual exchange, the architecture can be appropriately added thecharacteristics of their respective industries. Thus, geographic information sharingcan be achieved in the maximum.In this article, geographic information service and standardized graphics are themain research objects. Aiming at solving the shortcomings of web cartographyservices, this article mainly completed the following work:(1)By studying the symbol standards and cartographic specifications, thestandard database and cartography process system have been established. (2) By studying the core technology of cartography service and combiningArcObjects components with Web Service, we encapsulate the business logic of thestandardized cartography, providing unified service invocation interface.(3) Under the above architecture, this article realizes standardized cartographyplatform based on services. This platform has been applied to the work in practice,which verify the rationality and feasibility of the Standardized Cartography ServiceArchitecture.
