With the vigorous development of China’s industrial construction, the qualitystandards of the large forgings become more and more high. There are many factorsthat affect the quality of forgings during forging. While temperature is the mostimportant. The temperature will have a direct impact on the quality of forgings,toughness and strength etc. But during the practical heat treatment, the heatingtemperature of forgings is obtained by experience in most of factories. Not only thepecision and the efficiency of this method are both low, but also the experience isdependented excessively. So the method has not been able to satisfy the requirementsin the process of forging. There is an urgent need for a more effective detectionmethod. Therefore the detection method of large forgings temperature field duringheat treatment is studied on the basic of the fundamental theories of the temperaturefield in this paper. The detail content is as follows:First, we should study the fundamental theories and basic laws of the temperaturefield and master the temperature field calculation methods, which lay the foundationfor establishing measurement model of temperature field.Second, through the analysis of the boundary conditions and initial conditions ofthe large axial forgings during heat treatment, the heat conduction equation will beestablished by combining the separation variable method and the temperature field.Then the temperature field measurement model of large axial forgings during heattreatment will be established. Afterwards, through further deduction of the thermalcurrent intensity, the heat conduction equation will be derived and the relationexpression between forgings surface temperature and internal temperature will beobtained. Thus a detection method of forgings temperature field based on variableseparation method will be presented.Finally, the temperature field of forgings will be simulated by the finite elementsoftware ANSYS. And the color image of forgings temperature field distribution willbe derived intuitively. Then furnace black box testing will be conducted by electric heating furnace. While the temperatures at different positions inside the forgings aremeasured with the thermal couples buried. So the temperature field detection methodwill be verified.
