This paper mainly includes two parts. One is the development of software system andthe other is the hardware system design.The development of software system is aimed at the initial graphics exchangespecification (IGES) files, which is an information exchange standard. It solves theproblems of data transformation between different CAD/CAM systems.This paper firstly introduces the related content of the IGES standard, and thenanalyzes the data storage structure of the commonly used entity in the case of a IGES filethat SolidWorks generate. It also introduces the development of the free-form surface andsome related concepts about NURBS.The software development is completed on the basis of following the IGES standard.The name of the software is YDNHAPS. It is able to handle any IGES files. The wholesoftware framework is builded with MFC of Visual C++2008and OCAF technology ofOpen CASCADE. The function of reading IGES files is done with data switchingtechnology of the Open CASCADE. The function of rebuilding and displaying the IGESfiles is done with visualization technology of the Open CASCADE.In addition to this, YDNHAPS also can analyse the IGES files which is a free-formsurface part with normal holes and finally get the result of the processing information forthe normal holes, including the holes’ diameter, the three-dimensional coordinate value ofthe holes’ center and the normal vectors of holes. All the processing information will betranslated to the data of the cutting tool path trajectory for five-axis machining andultimately be converted to the NC code for the five-axis machining.The design of the hardware system is consists of two parts. One is the design offive-axis movement simulative platform and the other is the design of the control system.Five-axis movement simulative platform can simulate the behavior of five-axiscooperating manufacturing of the five-axis cooperating CNC machine. Siemens840D isselected as the control system. The connection of the control system, the PLC hardwareconfiguration, the PLC program and the debugging for the whole system are completed. At last, the NC code is loaded in the VERICUT for simulating manufacturing in orderto verify the accuracy of the NC code generated by the YDNHAPS.The software described in this article is targeted.We do not have to buy a set ofsoftware and this can reduce the cost.The hardware design described in this paper havecertain extend guiding value for the development of five-axis machining tool and theapplication of siemens840D in industry.
