Float collar is an important device in the cementing process, its performancehas a direct impact on cementing quality. Due to the special requirements of thecementing process, it has strict requirement on the performance indicators of floatcollar. With the development of oil exploration to the direction of the deep andultra-deep well, it needs the float collar to be more stable and reliable. It is urgentand meaningful to enhance the performance of float collar. This article makes acomprehensive analysis on the steady-state performance and dynamic performanceof the float collar by numerical simulation.The steady-state performance of float collar includes flow resistancecharacteristics and wall shear and erosion characteristics. This article analyzes theflow characteristics of the slurry in the float collar, establishes the parametricmodel of the flow field within the float collar with PRO/E and GAMBIT,simulates the stable flow state of cementing slurry with the FLUENT, establishedthe relationship between the body structure parameters and flow resistance. Itanalyzes the wall shear stress distribution and makes structural improvements toreduce the shear failure and erosion damage.The spring stiffness of float collar has an impact on the dynamic performanceand steady state performance of float collar. This article establishes the dynamicmodel of flow field area in the float collar with UDF of FLUENT and analyzes thevariation of spool’s velocity, displacement and force in the open course of floatcollar. It establishes the relationship between the spring stiffness and the stableopen distance.Through the above analysis and research, this article has been got somepreliminary conclusions and provided more evidence for designing float collar.
