The current bridge construction is characterized by too much consumption of engineering resources, high cost, serious environmental pollution. As a result, carrying out bridge engineering life cycle environmental impact assessment methods to achieve the sustainable development and reflect the green concept of bridge engineering, has important theoretical significance and practical value. However, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) only as evaluation tools of environmental properties, has certain limitations in support of the bridge type scheme decision.The bridge construction is influenced by the environment. In addition, it is closely linked to economic factors, Life cycle cost analysis (LCC) provides a way to solve these economic problems. From the perspective of bridge life-cycle, LCC considers the environmental costs at all stages as the bridge design, raw material production, construction, operation and maintenance to disposal. It is an evaluation tool of economic properties widely recognized and accepted. Therefore, integration of the LCA and LCC is propitious to the establishment of environment and cost comprehensive evaluation system, as well as to promote the environmental and economic benefits balance, making the integrated evaluation of environmental and economic properties of the bridge engineering in the full life cycle even more necessary.The research project is funded by the Nature Science Foundation of Hubei Province in China (2008CDB367), based on the life cycle theory, in order to reduce life cycle costs of bridge engineering as a starting point. Relying on the actual engineering of Wuhan, Xudong viaduct to carry out the integration method research of life cycle assessment and costing analysis for bridge engineering. The main findings are as follows:1、 Based on the theory of life cycle assessment and life cycle cost of bridge engineering, in accordance with the principles of comprehensiveness, operability, and dynamic, construct the integrated evaluation index system of bridge engineering life cycle environmental impact and cost analysis.2、 This article focuses on forming consideration of environmental properties and economic properties in bridge engineering life cycle. In the research, environmental properties are as environmental impact in bridge engineering life cycle(Output process), and economic properties are as engineering life cycle cost related to the environmental factors.(Input process) Then convert the potential value of environmental impact in bridge engineering life cycle into economic magnitude. Based on Matrix theory, this article construct input process and output process matrix and its unit matrix, it can get Comprehensive cost matrix of input and output process. Finally, put forward a new method to integrate LCC related to those environmental factors (Input costs) and to the life cycle environmental impact cost (Output costs) together.3、Compared two designs (program A is Hybrid Girder Bridge, program B is Steel box girder bridge) of Wuhan Xudong Viaduct with the integration method of life cycle assessment and costing analysis for bridge engineering, it can get that life cycle environmental impact of Steel box girder bridge is lower than Hybrid bridge, but life cycle cost of Steel box girder bridge is higher than Hybrid bridge. However, the combined effect which contains both Life cycle environmental impact and cost of Steel box girder bridge is lower than Hybrid bridge. The method can be used as the basic method to quantify the life cycle comprehensive cost of bridge engineering.
