Welding plays a crucial role in national economy as an indispensable processingmethod. With the growth of population and material needs, people’s basic necessitiesof life seems has no direct relation with welding technology, but each part of them–production, transport, sales, etc.—all used welding technologies. We can say thatwelding is blending in nowadays’ life. But most of welding technologies are stillstaying in traditional manual welding, which can not meet the demand of high-speeddevelopment. Intelligent, automatic welding technologies with high technologycontent and high added value are badly in need. According to the current developmentin welding field, this thesis aiming at working principle of arc sensor, put forward anew cross magnetic-steered arc sensor, and put it into the research of lap groove’sseam tracking. The thesis makes great contributions to automation andintellectualization of welding. The main contents are as follows:(1) Designed and made of every circuit of magnetic-steered arc seam trackingsensor, including excitation power, position pulse and acquisition of signal.(2) Designed the production device of new magnetic-steered arc field,2-Ddesign to it by AutoCAD,3-D structure by Pro/Engineer, which providing theoreticalbasis for its making and forming.(3) Established swing amplitude mathematical model of cross-field, researchedrelation between weld pool width and arc swing by both theory and experiment, andanalyzed influences that every factor acting on swing arc.(4) Study on the acquisition of seam tracking signal based on magnetic-controlarc sensor, filtering processing, and recognition method of weld seam deviation, andfinally selected wavelet threshold de-noising filter on signal processing. According tothe characteristics of lap groove and the swing rule of magnetic-steered arc onrecognition of weld seam deviation, this thesis put forward a combination weld seamdeviation by both unilateral compared method which based on the midpointequalization of area integral and torch control method.(5) Introduced the forming and realization way of magnetic-steered arc sensorseam tracking system, and did some tracking experiments by single linear, left side,right side and double transition on lap weld. The experiments achieved good results, which verified the feasibility of magnetic-steered arc sensor seam tracking system onlap weld.
