Nowadays,"HSM" is the new technology in mechanical machining field, especiallyin machining the part with complex shape, low rigidity, difficult cutting material andhigh quality. Ti-alloy closed impeller is the typical part of this type. This paper give ahigh speed machining process for the impeller on five axes machine, it can supply someideas for the machining of this type of part.This paper major in the following job:Firstly, studying the development and current situation of HSM on five axes machine,and express the difficulties of this cutting technology.Secondly, finding the difficulties of machining Ti-alloy closed impeller by analyzingthe part shape and material’s characteristic. Because Ti-alloy’s strength is big,conduction of heat is bad and shape is complex, so giving a solving method-HSM onfive axes machine.Thirdly, finding the main cause of influencing the part quality in machining precisepart and give the solving method, especially give a viewpoint that heat is the main causeon influencing part’s quality, and give the method about how to make the machine to bea dynamic balance of heat about the machine-MIKRON HSM400U.Fourthly, CAD/CAM software is more and more import in the field of mechanicalmachining. through studying and analyzing sorts of software, choosing Pro/E formodeling the part and HyperMILL for making the NC program, it can combine theadvantages of different software, maybe it be a new idea in making machining process.This paper has expressed the problems and difficulties on machining the part withcomplex shape and special material characteristic through making the machiningprocess of Ti-alloy closed impeller. Maybe it is useful in everyday work in mechanicalmachining field.
