Spiral bevel gears which possess advantages of high load carrying capacity andsmooth transmission are widely used in the field of mechanical transmission. Spiral bevelgears in China at present are mainly produced by special machine of traditional spiral bevelgears, which has caused manufacturing techniques in related products of China’s spiral bevelgears much poorer than the advanced products of the world, mainly in the laggingmanufacturing techniques and low product precision. The manufacturing techniques andequipments of spiral bevel gears are lagging, so precise and special machines and machiningtools are required. Since manufacturing techniques of spiral bevel gears have been strictlyblocked by foreign countries, research and development techniques in China’s special CNCmachines of good spiral bevel gears still fall far behind, compared with foreign countries. So,how to systematically research advanced manufacturing techniques and equipments of CNCmachines is an important issue in promoting manufacturing level of China’s spiral bevel gears.Therefore, the machining error and its measuring method of spiral bevel gears are urgentlyrequired for deep research. By integrated using spatial meshing theory, CNC processingtechnology, virtual measurement principle, multi-body system theory and VC++and UG/gripprogramming language, the spatial meshing mechanism of spiral bevel gears is analyzed, theinfluence rule of the machine original error is revealed, and virtual measuring method basedon CNC processing simulation of spiral bevel gears is explored. Specific research contents areas follows:(1) CNC processing methods of spiral bevel gears are summarized, application ofmulti-body system theory in the analysis of CNC processing error and creation method of theerror model are analyzed, and principle, method and procedure of virtual measurement areintroduced, which form a theoretical base for further research.(2) Based on specific geometry of the CNC processing machine tools of spiral bevelgears, the error propagation model in spatial geometry are developed by analyzing the spaceoriginal geometry errors and kinematic errors of machine tools.(3) Based on the results of (1) and (2), the comprehensive model of processing errors isdeveloped by deriving surface equation of spiral bevel gears and using multi-body systemtheory. Moreover, original errors of machine tools are simulated by using Matlab software,revealing the comprehensive influence rule of the original errors on the surface machiningerror of spiral bevel gears.(4) Virtual measuring method of the machining error is established based on virtual measuring theory, and the virtual measuring table is developed by using UG and VC++.Moreover, by using two-point and three-point offset method, efficient virtual measurementand contrastive analysis of processing errors which are based on CNC processing simulationof spiral bevel gears are realized.To sum up, the studies of this paper have provided an available method on efficientlyanalyzing and measuring CNC processing errors of spiral bevel gears, and have established atheory basis for improving manufacturing technique and equipment level of China’s spiralbevel gears.
