In this study, the performance of divergent cyclone is evaluated by the use ofcommercial CFD software FLUENT. The gas flow field is obtained by the use ofReynolds stress model (RSM) and the particle motion is simulated by the use of astochastic Lagrangian model. Both the axial velocity and tangential velocity decrease from top to bottom as afluid segment moves due to the inverted conical cyclone body. Only a few gas streamscan enter the dust hopper due to the blocking effect of reflecting screen.Almost all particles with big diameters (d≥5μm) are collected by the divergentcyclone. The divergent cyclone also has strong capability to trap the particles with smalldiameters (d <5μm) because particles may have little chance to escape from the dusthopper due to the blocking effect of reflecting screen. In condition of the relationshipbetween separation efficiency and pressure drop, the operating gas inlet velocity rangeis suggested to be14~18m/s.This simulation could improve our knowledge about the performance of divergentcyclone and provide some fundamental information for further research of divergentcyclones.
