Oil enters in the soil through a variety of ways during oil exploration, transportation, storage, processing, which has caused serious soil pollution. The soil pollution not only causes serious environmental pollution, but also harms to human health eventually with the role of the food chain. A lot of remediation methods of oil-contaminated soil exist shortcomings such as time consuming, processing a single object, control difficulties, having secondary pollution. Microwave with its fast, efficiently, energy saving and low cost becomes a new technology for remediation of oil-contaminated soil. The domestic research has just started. Therefore, the regularity of the microwave on different factors of the contaminated soil was analyzed experimentally and theoretically expecting to provide experimental and theoretical basis for the application of microwave heating technique in the future.Fist, microwave thermal remediation was compared with other thermal remediation process on the crude-oil-contaminated soil. The process was applied to investigate the possibility of its practical application through running time of microwave, oil removal rate and energy consumption. Then, the relation between microwave power, running time of microwave, the oil content of soil, the water content of soil and oil removal rate was researched. The preliminary conclusion on the laws of oil by microwave was summarized.According to the electromagnetic theory and the thermodynamic theory, the mathematical model of the effect of microwave on the crude oil and product oil was established. Making use of calculation program and experimental results, the distribution of temperature was determined. The mathematical model was also verified by experimental results. The reactivity mechanism of microwave on oil was analyzed from temperature field.Research shows:(1) Microwave can create higher tempreture and heat faster than traditional way, which illustrates the feasibility of the microwave technique in the bioremediation of oil-contaminated soil.(2) The temperature rise curve and oil removal rate curve showed the same tendency with the increase of water content of soil.(3) The oil removal rate of contaminated soil increased significantly with the addition of microwave heating power.(4) The oil removal rate of contaminated soil went down with the addition of oil content of soil.(5) microwave can produce high temperature in a short period of time. The main removalmechanisms contain microwave-induced steam distillation, evaporation, thermal desorptionand pyrolysis.
