“NWAY” clothing refers to the products with various forms of change and dressing as thecore application. The users can change the original style, color, material and details of the cloththrough simple operations to produce multi styles, applications and functions. In application, ithas some relationship with “one outfit to wear more”,“clothing change” as well as intelligentclothing.With the development of times, people are not satisfied with general material enjoyment inconsumption and life any longer and start to focus on rich spirit. At the same time, people do notonly focus on the dressing of clothes, but increasingly hope the dress can bring emotionalenjoyment. Many people independently match or dress in a more innovative way to experiencevarious joys from the dressing. The changeable nature of “NWAY” not only meets people’svarious needs in sense and emotion, but also conforms the diversified development trend and theconcept of energy-saving and environment-friendly sustainable development.“NWAY” hasbecome one of fashions in today’s society.This paper, based on relevant theories of demand classification, clothing psychology andconsumers behaviors and consumers’ changeable demands, firstly emphasizes on analyzing thelevels and characteristics of changeable demands to provide theory basis for the method of“NWAY” design; secondly, defines the concept of “NWAY” clothing and summarizes four typesof “NWAY” clothing including color change type, outline change type, detail change type andfunction change type on the basis of current situation of “NWAY” clothing and investigation,collection and classification of “NWAY” clothing in current stages, and analyzes thecharacteristics, reasons for development, consumers and development trend. Thirdly, designmethods of “NWAY” clothing include:1. visceral level: distortion method, removal method,combination method, conversion method and scientific and technological method;2. behaviorallevel: practical details design, multi-function detail design;3. reflective level: role implantation, concepts implantation. In addition, the basic principles of "NWAY" design are expounded,including: variability of design elements, reflecting the consumer’s independent participation andeffective guidance of dress, which provides a design idea and path for the designers andenterprises to effectively realize the value of clothing but also maximally meet the consumers’requirements. Finally, the theories are put into the practice to analyze the case of “NWAY"wedding dress design.
