The Songhua River is the important industrial and agricultural producting regionin China. However, the water in this area has been heavily contaminated for a longtime owing to the traditional economic pattern. Research on change trend andcharacteristics of water quality and contaminations in Songhua River, has practicalsignificance in controlling the generation and emission of polltuants here, so does itprovide technical support for water management.This paper was comprehensively investigated on evaluating the water quality ofthe monitoring sections of the Songhua River from2003to2012using water qualityevaluation with pollution index. According to the results, the difference of the waterquality of the monitoring sections of the mainstreams basin and the tributaries in theSonghua River was significantly. The tributaries are seriously polluted. The waterquality of the branches mostly attains standards of Grade â…¤ or worse than â…¤. Theothers move in a narrower range. Grade â…£ or â…¤ occupy a great number, but Gradeâ…¢ accounts for a lesser number. The main water contaminations in the Songhua Riverare ammonium-nitrogen, total phosphorus, CODCr, BOD5.Based on Seasonal Kendall test method, this paper has obtained the water qualitytrends in Songhua River.A: Through overall trends analysis of the concentration of pollution indicators,CODMn, CODCrall showed significantly decrease, and so does nutrient salts indicatorssuch as Ammonia and total phosphorus, while DO and inorganic anions such as sulfideand cyanide showed significant upward trend. However, represented as heavy metalpollution indicators, total mercury, total cadmium, zinc increased significant whileother pollution indicators showed no significant change in trend.B: Through trends study of each pollution indicator of the catchment, results areas follows: Organic pollution in Nen River area is reduced gradually. Heavy metal andinorganic anions pollution are concentrated mainly in the second Songhua River areaand increased significantly. The organic and inorganic anions in Songhua River areincreased obviously while other pollution indicators changing trends are not small or decreased significantly.Factor Analysis Method were used to evaluate the structure of each pollutionindicator and explored the characterized pollutant in water environment in every areaof the second Songhua River. In this study, correlations between different pollutionindicators were not the same. Industrial waste water was the main pollutants any timein the second Songhua River.Characterized pollution contained the total cadmium, CODCrand volatile phenolsin dry periods; Zinc, BOD5, volatile phenols in normal water periods; andcyanide,CODCrand DO in wet periods.
