Objective: To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of ocular trauma, according to the eye trauma Association of the United States to develop oculartrauma score (OTS) standard, ocular trauma international standardized grading, toprovide objective and accurate information on the severity and prognosis of oculartrauma, guiding us to accurately and quickly work out the most reasonablediagnostic and treatment programs.Methods:In251patients(252eyes)with eye injuries, certain numerical valuesrendered to the OTS variables(visual acuity, rupture, endophthalmitis, perforatinginjury, retinal detachment and afferent papillary defect)at presentation weresummarized and converted into OTS categories. The likelihood of the final visualacuties in the OTS categories were calculated and compared with those in the OTSstudy. Results:The likelihood of the final visual acuities(no light perception, lightperception/hand motion LP/HM,1/200to19/200,20/200to20/50,and>20/40) in the OTS categories(1to5)in this group were similar to those in the OTSstudy group. The final visual acuity had a positive correlation significantly to thefirst visual acuity. No study eye was in the both category-5with NLP visual acuityand category-1with>20/40visual acuity. Conclusions: OTS calculated at initial examination may provide prognosticinformation in eye injuries.
