| Objective: To investigate the feasibility of percutaneousnephrolithotomy (PCNL) in treating calculi within horseshoe kidney.Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the achievements of9patientswho underwent PCNL for calculi within horseshoe kidneys form April2009to September2012.Results:77.78%(7/9) were rendered stone-free by surgery once.In2cases there were hemorrhage that required percutaneous nephrolithotomytwice.Of9cases,calculi within bilateral horseshoe kidneys was in3.1nephrostomy tract was required in all patients,renal access was obtainedthrough an upper calyx in1case,a middle calyx in9,Average blood lossvolume was85ml,operative time was90min,average hospitalization staywas17days.In all the cases,no blood transfusions were needed.no majorcomplications were noted.Conclusions: Percutaneous nephorlithotomy is safe and effective intreating calculi within horseshoe kidney.... |
