The Clinical Study And Mechanism Of The Kuanzhongjieyutang In Treating Constipation Predominant Irritable Bowel Syndrome(Liver-qi Stagnation)

Objectives: To observe the clinical effects and safety of Kuanzhongjieyutangdecoction in treating IBS-C(Liver–Qi stagnation), while observing the side of the plasmaVIP,SS,5-HT content in order to explore the the mechanism of Kuanzhongjieyutangdecoction in treating IBS-C(Liver–Qi stagnation).Methods: This research was based on90cases of observed patients chosen byadoption standards. They were randomly divided into two groups. One group was the testgroup, the patients of which were treated with Kuanzhongjieyutang decoction. The othergroup was the control group, with patients being treated with Polycarbophil.4weeks wasset as a course of treatment. The efficacy of TCM symptoms, the changes in symptomscores, and the score improvement of the IBS-QOL of each group were compared. Thechange of VIP content and SS content and5-HT content before and after the research wereobserved. And all the data above of each group were processed and analyzed statistically.Results: In the aspect of clinical symptomatic efficacy of Chinese Medicine, both ofthe two groups had positive effects in different degree, but the test group was much betterthan the control group(P<0.01). In the aspect of the main symptom score, the treatment onthe test group worked better with abdominal distention and pain, irritability, poor appetite,bowel flatus and belching than the control group（P＜0.05or P＜0.01）. Two groupsshowed no significant difference in dry stool, stool frequency, defecation difficulties（P＞0.05）.In the aspect of quality of life, the test group worked much more effective toimprove and enhance the quality of life of the patients (P<0.05or p<0.01). The VIP, SS,5-HT of the test group was obviously reduced after treatment（P＜0.01）. No obvious change was found in the VIP and SS of the control group（P＞0.05）,but the5-HT’ contentwas lower before treatment（P＜0.01）which didn’t better than the test group（P＜0.01).Conclusions: Kuanzhongjieyutang decoction is safe and effective for treatmentof constipation type irritable bowel syndrome. It works on improving clinical condition,and improving the quality of life of the patients. And Kuanzhongjieyutang decoction canimprove the intestinal symptoms and psychological status of patients by reducing the VIP、SS、5-HT of them, regulating the function of the brain-gut axis, which reduces the visceralhypersensitivity, improves the intestinal motor function.It can provide a wider range ofideas for the Chinese medicine treatment of IBS-C.
