| Objective The aims of our study were to assess the correlation ofexpression of vascular endothelial cadherin (VE-cadherin) and P120ctn inhuman non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) tissues and to correlate theseexpression levels with the clinicopathological characteristics of NSCLC.Methods The expression levels of VE-cadherin and P120ctn wereexamined by immunohistochemistry in NSCLC tissues from52patientsand their adjacent non-neoplastic tissues that were at least5cm away fromthe tumor tissues. The mRNA expressions of VE-cadherin and P120ctnwere detected by QRT-PCR in52specimens of NSCLC and normal lungcancer tissue at least5cm away from the tumor tissues. Results The positive rates of VE-cadherin and P120ctn in NSCLCwere55.8%(29/52) and76.9%(40/52), respectively. The positive rate ofVE-cadherin in NSCLC was higher than that in adjacent non-neoplastictissues (P <0.05).The VE-cadherin expression level correlated with lymph node, metastasis differentiation of tumor and TNM stage(P<0.05).Therelative expression intensity of VE-cadherin mRNA in NSCLC tissues ishigher than adjacent non-neoplastic tissues (P<0.05).The abnormalexpression of P120ctn in NSCLC were decreased membranous expressionand increased cytoplasmic expression, and the P120ctn expression levelinversely correlated with lymph node metastasis differentiation of tumorand TNM stage.(P <0.05). There were no significant differences betweenthe expression of VE-cadherin, p120ctn and histological type. The relativeexpression intensity of p120ctn mRNA in NSCLC tissues is lower thanadjacent non-neoplastic tissues (P<0.05).Conclusions We demonstrated the aberrant expression ofVE-cadherin in NSCLC is correlatated with the abnormal of p120ctnexpression. Both of these proteins are associated with lymph node, metastasis metastasis differentiation of tumor and TNM stage. Theabnormal expression of P120ctn and VE-cadherin may play an importantrole in angiogenesis and act in a synergistic manner in NSCLC. |
