| Background Adenoid vegetation was one of the common diseases in children in otolaryngology. It could cause not only of sleep-related breathing disorder in children, but also secretory otitis media, chronic sinus conduction deafness and other complications. It related to anatomy, genetics, environment factors and so on. Inflammatory mediators such as interleukin4(IL-4), tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-a) were important reaction factors which played an important role in the development of adenoid vegetation. Eosinophil cationic protein(ECP) was a kind of protein toxin alkaline particles. It could cause the airway inflammation, associated with an increasing number of nasal resistances caused by allergic rhinitis. And the prevalence of adenoid vegetation in children with allergic disease was significantly higher than that in normal. Therefore, whether the level of ECP changed in children with adenoid vegetation worth our considering. The purpose of this paper was to study correlations between the levels of TNF-αã€IL-4,ã€ECP and adenoid vegetation in children. Objective To explore the relationship between the levels of tumor necrosis TNF-αã€IL-4〠ECP in serum of children with adenoid vegetation and the degree of adenoid vegetation and body mass index(BMI).Methods87cases of patients with adenoid vegetation alone confirmed by the side of nasopharyngeal X-ray slice (experimental group) and49normal control cases by physical examination in department of health in our hospital during the same period(control group), detect the height and weight and calculate the BMI of139children. The relative size of adenoidectomy was indicated by adenoidal nasopharyngeal ratio (A/N). Determine the levels of TNF-α IL-4ã€ECP in their serum by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit (ELISA).Result The serum levels of TNF-αã€IL-4in experimental group were higher than that in controls (p<0.05), but the levels of ECP were similar in the two groups (p>0.05).Conclusion The serum levels of TNF-αã€IL-4in children with adenoid vegetation increased at certain degree, and their levels soared correlated positively with the degree of adenoid vegetation as reflected by A/N, not by BMI. The levels of ECP have no obvious correlation with A/N. |
