Objective To investigate the standard precautions status of medical staff and to explore the factors influencing the compliance with standard precautions in emergency departments so as to provide a theoretical basis for the improvement of medical staffs’ complianceMethods A total of278emergency stuffs from10hospitals were asked to fill the questionnaires on knowledge, practice related to standard precautions and the health belief model was used as the theoretical framework and12in-depth interviews were organised to elicit the factors influencing their compliance with standard precautions.Results Eventually250valid questionnaires were received. The average knowledge score was9.54±2.62and the correct ratio was73.42%; The average practice score was60.60±6.94and the compliance ratio was70.82%; following content analysis, six themes were found:barriers, susceptibility, benefits, cues to action, severity and self-efficacy.Conclusion The cognition and behaviour of standard precautions need to be further improved and in order to improve the compliance, it is suggested that the hospitals should provide the availabilityã€accessibility protective equipment, pay attention to the development of a safety culture and value the cultivating of self-protection consciousness on medical staffs. |
