Purpose:Discuss CT and PET-CT in the staging of esophageal cancer and assess theefficacy of neoadjuvant treatment comparison value.of esophageal cancer.Material andMethods:Part I: There are148patients who under esophageal cancer surgery at the FirstAffiliated Hospital of Soochow University esophageal cancer surgery in our hospitalbefore surgery or the100Hospital of People’s Liberation Army18F-FDG PET-CTexamination and CT chest and abdomen between February2007and February2012. Allpatients were conducted enhanced CT chest and abdomen after preoperative staging, performed again after re-PET-CT examination preoperative staging and staging with CTscan results were compared. Part II: Through the self-February2009to February2012inthe Soviet attached to a hospital confirmed by endoscopy underwent18F-FDG PET-CTexamination of esophageal cancer underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy and underwentsurgery after17patients by CT, a prospective study of the merits and value of the efficacyof neoadjuvant therapy FDG-PET and pathological assessment of both. Results:The firstpart: PET-CT in predicting T staging no obvious advantage, the difference was notstatistically significant (χ2=1.426, p=0.784); PET-CT predicted higher accuracy than CTN staging, the difference there was statistically significant (χ2=4.705, p=0.032). Thesecond part: PET-CT in patients with esophageal cancer predicted after neoadjuvanttherapy sensitivity of T stage (p=0.030) and accuracy (p=0.045) and there is astatistically significant in predicting new esophageal cancer patients adjuvant therapy afterN staging accuracy (p=0.04) and statistically significant advantage on the significance ofM1a predicted no statistical significance. PET-CT for patients in complete remission predict sensitivity (p=0.01), accuracy (p=0.04) higher than CT, and statisticallysignificant.Conclusions:1PET-CT can more accurately reflect the patient’s clinical staging thanCT, especially on higher value in N staging.2PET-CT can more accurately determine theefficacy of neoadjuvant therapy of esophageal cancer patients, than CT and providefurther individualized treatment and surgery choice.
