To explore the incidence rate of the sharp injury (SI) and its related risk factors in hospital staffs in Gansu province through an inventory survey so as to provide the basis for various health administrative branches to draw up control measures. In this thesis,11358medical professionals covering38medical institutions in6regions were selected by using multistage stratified cluster sampling method and a questionnaire survey was conducted in Gansu province inclouding medical staff’s personal data, sharp injury and its risk factors as well as the situation of blood-borne exposure and protection management system in these medical institutions. The results were showed as follows:1. The incidence rate of SI was9.87%. The case-time incidence rate was12.60%due to1121cases with1431SI times. The frequency of occurrence was1.05times/(person-month).2. The highest incidence rate of SI occurred in operation of surgical suture among medical staffs. While incidence rate in operation steps of venous blood, venous transfusion and scalp vein were higher in nurses and trainees, hands to set the needle cap and denture grinding in medical technicians, medical waste disposal in logistics workers.3. The incidence rate of SI in nurses and trainees were respectively14.20%and19.42%, higher than the rates in other professionals. Working duration under5years,5-10years and11-20years were higher than other groups, respectively12.94%、13.56%and13.11%.4. The incidence rate of SI was various at different sites. The main sites of SI occurance were public ward, operating room and blood room in nurses, while public ward, operating room and delivery room in medical physician and trainees and department of stomatology and operating room in medical technicians.5. The main medical instruments causing SI in medical staffs were syringe needle, intravenous fluids scalp needle and surgical suture needle. The surgical suture was the second top in physician and syringe needle and intravenous fluids scalp needle were the main reasons in other medical staffs.6. There were1099times exposures to the sharp source (76.80%). The SI induced by polluted instruments was980times (68.48%), of which the exposure to sharp instruments polluted by blood borne disease was474times (48.37%) and accounted for33.12%. Among these patients with various blood borne diseases, hepatitis B virus (HBV) accounted for74.26%, treponema pallidun (TP)13.08%, hepatitis C virus (HCV)12.03%and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)0.63%.The results suggested that there is high incidence rate of SI in medical staffs in Gansu province, especially in nurses and trainees. So it is a very important public health problem needed to solve for related government departments to explore occupational safe superrision and management system in order to relieve the occupational health risk in medical institutes.
