Objectives To investigate Illness Uncertainty level and its influencing factors amongEsophageal Carcinoma patients who accepting Radiotherapy, and provide the basis forthe management of uncertainty of illness; to study the relationship between IllnessUncertainty and Quality of Life and Psychological Distress among EsophagealCarcinoma patients who accepting Radiotherapy. Methods From May2013to December2013,121patients who accepting Radiotherapyof esophageal cancer patients in department of oncology and radiotherapy of twocomprehensive three A-level hospitals in Anhui province using convenient samplingmethod as the research objects. Let patients fill in General information questionnaire,MUSI-A, QLQ-C30and DT. All data was inputted by EpiData3.0and analyzed bySPSS18.0.Results1.121esophageal cancer patients were recruited. Male92cases, accounted for76.0%,Female29cases, accounted for24.0%;Married104cases, accounted for86.0%,Single/Divorced/Widowed17cases, accounted for14.0%; Age range:44~84years old, proportion of60-74years old up to74people, accounting for61.2%; Among therespondents, Farmers65case, take the biggest proportion, accounting for53.7%,following by were workers17cases, accounting for14.0%; Family per capita monthlyincome of <1000up to54cases, accounting for44.6%, followed by the monthlyincome of RMB1000-3000,42cases, accounting for34.7%; patients has primary school background and below70cases, accounting for57.9%, followed by weresecondary academic34people, accounting for28.1%;Patients use new type of ruralcooperative medical care80cases, accounting66.1%.2. The average score of illness uncertainty of esophageal carcinoma radiotherapypatients was70.36±8.58, in the medium level, Ambiguity dimension scored abovecomplexity dimension.3. The score from low to high of five function subscales of Quality of life amongesophageal carcinoma radiotherapy patients followed by: emotional function, rolefunction, social function, physical function, cognitive function. Tip: the higher thescore, the better function.4. Among esophageal carcinoma radiotherapy patients, the level of illness uncertaintywas negative correlation with emotional function, role function, social function, physical function, cognitive function, overall health (P<0.05, P<0.01); Ambiguitydimension was negative correlation with Emotional function, role function, socialfunction, physical function, cognitive function, overall health(P<0.05, P<0.01);Complexity dimension was negative correlation emotional function, role function, social function, physical function, cognitive function (P<0.05, P<0.01).5. Patients with disease level of uncertainty and ambiguity dimension scores have apositive correlation with psychological distress(P<0.01).6. The feeling of the severity of disease and whether has religious beliefs have asignificant influence on the illness uncertainty. Conclusions Esophageal carcinoma Patients undergoing radiotherapy have a mediumdegree of illness uncertainty; The level of illness uncertainty associated with the qualityof life and psychological distress; Self-induction disease severity, religion is the maininfluence factors of esophageal carcinoma patients undergoing radiotherapy;...
