PURPOSE To explore the relationship between the post-stroke depression and the differentiation type of stroke.METHODS Case-control study was used. The clinical data of 80 inpatients with stroke were collected, which included the social economic condition, the history of diseases such as coronary heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipemia, the clinical findings of examination especially psychiatric and neurologic assessment, and the auxiliary tests results (incltlding the blood glucose, blood fat, the portable blood pressure examination, ECG examination. brain CT or. MRI scan, etc) as well as differentiation type of stroke. The patients were divied into 2 groups, depression group(PSD)and without depression group(control), according to the diagnostic criteria of depression in CCMD-3 of Chinese. The odds ritio(OR) was analysed bythe method of logistic regression and used to select the risk factors for post-stroke depression.RESULTS TOTAL In the 80 patients, 32 (40.0%) were dignosed as post-stroke deprcssion, among them 17(53.12%) were minor depression, 12(37.50%) middle depression, 3(9.38%) major dcpression. Logistic regression amalysis showed that important factors of post-stroke depression included the degree of neurologic impairment(OR=1.43) and social support (OR-0.70). The post-stroke depression was also relevant to the differentiation of stroke. Most patients with post-stroke depression were qi ficiency or Fire, or yin-deficiency and yang-hyperactivity. Therc were no statistically significant difference in, sex, age, stroke type. stroke localization. lesion numbers, risk factors of cercbrvasular diseasea (hypertension, hyperlipemia), culture degree, occupationand income bctween PSD group and control.CONCLUSIONS The depression is common seen in patients with stroke, especially in those with a significant Aisability and laking of social support. In traditional Chinese medicine, the patients with yin-deficiencv and yang-hyperactivity, deficiency of qi, fire differentiation type arc liable to subject to post-stroke depression. Early recognition and treatment of depression would facilitate rehabilitation.
