Qiu Xiaolong has opened up a successful writing route among those Chinese-Americanwriters, with its unique detective novels in western market. He takes the framework of thedetective novel to vividly describe the transition of contemporary Chinese reality society, hisnovels relates to to a large number of Chinese fate, political ecology, social folk customs,traditional cultures and other aspects of the content, in addition to the male protagonist ChenChao throughout all works, it also involve much description of women, those unique femalecharacters can supplement and enrich the novels’ aesthetic connotations of Qiu Xiaolongdetective novels. This thesis starts from the perspective of the Female Images of Qiu Xiaolongdetective novels, on the base of all the creationo of Qiu Xiaolong detective series of novels, takethe the phenomenon of women of description in the novel as a whole, by means of feministthought and gender consciousness, to analyze the images of women in the novels, they arediscussed in three types: female victims, female assistants, and other minor female. Moreover,this thesis discusses the all subtle relationships between the Female Images of Qiu Xiaolongdetective novels and Chinese culture, including “red” Chinese contemporary culture andclassical literature. and finally makes a discussion about the factor which affects maleprotagonist’s concept of gender, to further answer the complex and contradictory genderconsciousness of the novels.
