| Wen Ze,an important work on principles of writing by Chen Kui during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279) after assiduous research on Six Classics and the other Ancient Chinese Classics,provides us numerous articles carefully selected from the pre-Qin classics which are model articles affecting the later generations forever.With its wide and grand contents, this book is not only the forerunner of the Art of Writing and Speech, but also a vanguard of the establishment of scientific rhetoric.In this paper, only the issues concerning the Art of Writing and Speech are covered. There are five parts as follows.Part one is introduction,in which discusses briefly Wen Ze is a writing principle book, so describes the purpose and singnificance of this thesis. And finally analyses the book’s research status.Part two gives a brief introduction of Chen Kui, the writer and his completion of Wen Ze and the book’s style, which helps us get a comprehensive understanding of the writer and his work.Part three discusses the "idea"principle of writing from the following three aspects. First, by comparing the relevant concepts, the view "writing is based on idea"is established and Chen Kui’s development of this theory is discussed. Second, that when writing "ideas can be transferred"is elaborated on.Third, the "idea" principle of writing is discussed from the aspect that good writing "is the best accumulation of ideas". These three aspects make up Chen Kui’s incisive view on the "idea"principle of writing.Part four is devoted to the discussion on the "language"principle of writing from four aspects, that is the four requirements of language in writing:natural and harmonious,concise and reasonable,keeping pace with times and applying various language varieties.Conclusion summarizes the whole. By deconstructing Wen Ze from the "idea"and "language"precinples, this paper provides a better understanding of Wen Ze’s value in the literiture history and its significance in the history of the Art of Writing. |
