Translation Practice Report On International Publicity News Materials From Beijing Review

Beijing Review is the first news weekly of current policies in the history of NewChina. It aims to introduce China’s political, economic and social development andChinese government’s major principles and policies to the world, also expoundChina’s position on international issues. Therefore, the translation of Beijing reviewas an international publicity journal plays a decisive role in China’s internationalpublicity system. It can not only reflect China’s international publicity directly, butalso help foreign readers understand China’s political and economic policies andtraditional culture, so as to fully and accurately understand China. The author selectsfour articles from Chinese version of Beijing Review to translate (two articles aboutpolitics, two articles about economy), and writes down the translation reportaccording to the translation process and tries to solve the problems happening in theprocess by the functional translation theory. The author divides the translation reportinto four parts. The first part is task description, introducing the background of thetexts, the reasons for selecting the texts and the features of the texts. The second partis process description, describing the preparation for translation, translation theoryselection and the practice process. The third part is case analysis, introducing thefunctionalist translation theory, analyzing the source texts and target texts and tryingto use the translation strategies to guide the practice. The last part is a conclusion,pointing out the significance of international publicity material translation guided byfunctional translation theory.
