C-E Simultaneous Interpreting Strategies For Technical Speech

Despite numerous researches upon the generality of simultaneous interpretation, the in-depth targeted methodological explorations concerning the strategy-employment in response to the particularities of different subjects are hardly seen, not least the interpretation strategies on technological front, which is of increasing importance in international conference. Hence has emerged the necessitation of an insightful overview upon the distinctions and relevance between Chinese technical speeches with its English counterparts as well as improvised coping tactics for simultaneous interpretation.The speech material subjected to be studied is from Mr. Li Guangqi, Consultant of Nanchang University Museum. Positioned mainly on qualitative research, the instantaneous adjustments in the process of interpretation is the topic of overarching concern in this paper. Such simultaneous interpretation strategies as Brevity, Abbreviation, Replacement, Deverbalization, Syntactic Linearity have distinguished themselves from their common utilizations with new manifestations when they are in relation to technical speech.In regards to the specified distinctiveness of Chinese technical speech, the complicity of procedural description has posed severe challenge upon the interpreter insofar as to accurately deliver the output in line with the source text. By the employment of "Brevity’", however, the interpreter has been equipped with the autonomy of boiling down the description into an "inclusive" word so as to foreground the critical information. Secondly, since the priority of technical speech interpretation is the accurate faithfulness towards the objectivity of the source text, the interpreter shall be competent in avoiding the disturbance of stylistic pattern to adroitly "transform" the text to accommodate the readership of the audiences. Thirdly, while adopting the strategy of "Syntactic Linearity" in Chinese technical speech interpretation, the interpreter has been obliged to unveil the implicit logical connectiveness so as to describe the procedure with a natural targeted language flow. Last but not least, a new coping strategy of "Ambiguity" has allowed the interpreter to circumvent the overcommitment to the superfluous terminology enumerations of the source text without any abandonment of critical message.
