On The Intellectual Image In Contemporary China Of Wang Meng’Novel

As the participant and witness of the People’s Republic of China’s majorhistorical events, as one of the most representative revolutionary intellectuals, as oneof the most representative and influential writers in the history of contemporaryliterature, Wang Meng has the extraordinary right to reflect. Wang Meng is deservedto become one of the most representative writers in characterizing the image ofintellectuals in the new Republic of China. Revolutionary intellectuals almost existthrough his whole creation process. Wang Meng also creates the oriental stream ofconsciousness. He is good at describing and exploring intellectuals’ spirit. He alsotries to show an era of intellectuals’ life’s trajectory and spiritual development bydescribing different periods of intellectuals. He wants to call intellectuals’ trueConfession and build their independent personality in order to assume the real role ofthe new Republic of China. Wang Meng’ spiritual development can be seen as thespiritual development of the new Republic of China. He becomes a mirror of theChinese revolution because of his rich woks and complicated experience. So it ismeaningful and valuable to analysis and research the image of intellectuals in WangMeng’ woks.This paper divides Wang Meng’ creation into several important phases. And thenin order to pursue the spirit’s growth and development from love, gaffes, hesitate tocarnival, this paper selects and compares some representative images of intellectualsin Wang Meng’ works. At the same time, this paper pays much attention to the typicalcharacters under the typical environment, and then analysis the root of differentimages, including social root and personal root. In this way, people can not only havea much comprehensive and profound understanding about the Chinese contemporaryintellectual’ spirit development, but also can explore the connotation of social cultureand aesthetic behind them. What’ s more important,it can help the currentintellectuals to get rid of dilemma, handle the relationship between the environmentand individuals and maintain the independence of the intellectuals by analysis andcomparing the images of intellectuals in Wang Meng’ works.This paper’ first three chapters are mainly about the division of Wang Meng’ worksby intensive reading and analysis. What’s more, it wants to help the present intellectuals to escape thedilemma and try to assume the role of the builder and initiator. I t aimed at restoringthe real, reflecting history and warning posterity.
