| Rapid computer technology upgrading and knowledge globalization has madecomputer science one of the disciplines that have been undergoing a rapiddevelopment for the last ten years. To meet the growing needs of learners andresearchers in this field, many well-written textbooks have been translated andintroduced into universities and colleges. However, systematic researches into thetranslation issue of computer science textbooks are quite limited both in number andin quality.This study will look into the status quo of computer science textbook translationfrom both a macro perspective and a micro perspective, i.e. the study of translation asone segment of the whole textbook introduction process and the study of the actualrealization of the translation activity. Skopostheorie, a branch of GermanFunctionalism will be functioned as the main theoretical framework of this study dueto its strengths in purposeful translation activity.The characteristic of the study is that the author does not only pick one translatedcomputer science textbook as the research subject, to draw conclusions based on theanalysis of this particular book. Instead, the study will investigate the overalltranslation segment of the textbook introduction process through the perspectives ofmultiple translation participants, including publishers, translators, and textbookreceivers.The study aims to identify the problems that occur in the whole translationsegment of the computer science textbook introduction process, and try to improvethe translation quality of computer science textbooks, or ideally to provide someimplications for the translation practice of textbooks in other disciplines. |
