IELTS speaking is one of the vital aspects in the IELTS test; it is important to test the speaking skills of candidates. However, because of the different problems in the traditional and current IELTS speaking teaching, Chinese candidates’abilities to speak English are generally far from satisfaction.This paper tries to introduce the Task-based language teaching into the IELTS speaking teaching in order to prove this teaching approach is effective to improve the Chinese candidates’performances in IELTS speaking test. Task-based language teaching, a linguistic pedagogy, focuses on learning by doing and exposes the students to some specific linguistic tasks in order to meet the aims of cultivating some linguistic competence. Therefore, the thesis made an experimental study about the application of task-based language teaching in IELTS speaking. In this way, task-based language teaching approach has a good impact on changing students’ learning method, from mechanical memorizing to flexibly acquiring from teachers. Accordingly, task-based language teaching approach can optimize the way of learning as a whole. What is more, task-based language teaching is beneficial to the cultivation of students’language ability. Besides, the IELTS speaking part is mainly tested in the interacted way between examiners and candidates, which is suitable to the task-based language teaching approach. The conclusion of the thesis is the application of the task-based language teaching to the IELTS speaking teaching exerts a positive effect on improving the performance of Chinese candidates in IELTS speaking test.
