| Nowadays, frequent trades between China and foreign countries are demanding a stricter standard for translating legal texts, and we put more emphasis on the study of translating legal lexicon. But the studies on translating regulatory type are rare, especially for Corporate Constitution. Besides, there are some mistakes and problems existing in the legal lexicon translation of Corporate Constitution, such as semantic unclearness, conceptual ambiguity and so on.In order to solve these problems, we discuss the techniques for translating lexicon based on the author’s translation practice of a legal text:Corporate Constitution in English in this thesis. Firstly, we analyze the lexical features of different categories in English Corporate Constitution, and then we use the methods of contrast and analysis for summarizing their translation techniques respectively. In addition, we check the rationality and practicality of these translation techniques through the context and consider whether they could reproduce a regulatory function of the original text effectively. In the process of researching, the author finds that lexicon (words of symbolic groups) in an English legal text, such as Corporate Constitution, should be divided into three categories:purely technical terms, semi-technical terms and common vocabulary. Purely technical terms are monosemic, and some of them are adopted from loanwords, while the terms in the second group are polysemic. Therefore, the author thinks that when we translate such lexicon into Chinese, we should follow the translation principles of legal texts, such as functional and contextual equivalence and etc., and do researches on their sources, meanings and references, after that we could adopt different translation techniques, such as using equivalent terms, transplantation, addition, omission and so on in accordance with different situations. These techniques are used to obey the expression features of the target language, maintain the text’s regulatory function, and make the version acceptable and understandable to the readers. |
