A Study On Functional Equivalence-BASED English Translation Of Dalian Dialects From The Cross-Cultural Perspective

With the deepening of reform and opening up and the acceleration of the process of globalization, Dalian, as a costal city, relying on its unique geographical location, cultural background and humanity history, the internationalization develops rapidly, the communications with foreign countries increase frequently and the international status rises continuously. As an international open costal city, the inescapability of Dalian dialects in global communication has posed challenges to its translation.Language is the carrier of culture and it is the important part of culture. The so-called communication among different cultures is achieved by using the tool of language. To translate languages which are in different culture background is a cross-cultural communication which is self-evident that the influence of the cross-cultural factors to the translation of dialect is very major.Functional equivalence theory which emphasizes the target language readers and the source language readers have the same emphty advocates faithfulness fluent and natural and effective equivalence. This translaton proposition which doesn’t deny the form equivalence but emphasises on functional equivalence concerns about the ease of cultural conflict, focus on the influence of the cross-cultural factors to translation. In this sense, the functional equivalence-based English translation of Dalian Dialects from the cross-cultural perspective should have certain theoretical and practical value.With the cross-cultural factors and functional equivalence theory as the perspective and theoretical basis, by analyzing the characteristics and its English translation of Dalian dialects, this thesis discussed the functional equivalence translation strategy of Dalian dialects in order to provide some inspiration for dialects translation.
