Group Counseling To Improve The Empirical Research Of Middle School Students In Academic Procrastination

The paper studied on academic procrastination of second-year junior middle school students in Wuhan combined with related research and group counseling theory, designed and implemented the group counseling program. The paper adopted quantitative and qualitative analysis to learn assessment of the group counseling programs and the effect of group counseling for middle school students to explore effective means to reduce academic procrastination of middle school students.The present study used academic procrastination questionnaires with a targeted group counseling program to do researches, trying to understand the current status of middle school students’ academic procrastination, demonstrate the program’s necessity and feasibility.24students identified as voluntary research subjects, they were divided into experimental group and control group, male and female ratio was1:1. The experimental group counseling activities carried out for eight times, control group members did not receive any intervention. This thesis took use of "Procrastination Assessment Scale-Students, PASS" as an evaluation tool in before and after test and tracing test, and did the significance test, as a quantitative analysis of this study. In addition, the study also took the member’s self-assessment, the group leader’s assessment of the group members and the group leader’s assessment of the group activities as a qualitative research.The quantitative study showed that the difference between the experimental group and the control group in pre-test was insignificant, indicating these research subjects belong to homogeneous research subjects; differences in pre-test and post-test of the experimental group were significantly greater than the differences of pre-test and post-test in the control group, indicating the group counseling producing an effect on learning procrastination. In order to verify the effect’s continuity of the group psychological counseling, conducted a tracking test on the members three months later. After three months, experimental group tracking test score was significantly lower than the pre-test score. In track tests, the experimental group’s scores were lower than the experimental group before measuring, indicating the effect of group psychological counseling was sustainable. Qualitative analysis showed that the group counseling satisfaction was high; the leader grasped the changes of the group members, the assessment of the various stages showed that this group counseling of the experimental group was significantly reduced students’ academic procrastination. Finally, the combination of the above assessment, analyzed the reasons for the success of the group psychological counseling, discussed the encountered problems in the process and the program deficiencies that may exist.Results of this research:1. Junior high school students’ learning procrastination does not exist significant differences in gender.2. There is significant difference of each grade on the degree of procrastination scale, first grade delay degree is the lightest, third grade procrastination is the most serious.3. Group psychological counseling activities can reduce academic procrastination of second-year junior middle school students.4. The study aimed at academic procrastination of second-year junior middle school students design group psychological counseling scheme has effectiveness and feasibility.
