This is a translation project report on chapter3‘Cyber Security Objectives’of Cyber Security Policy Guidebook written by Jennifer L. Bayuk, Jason Healey, Paul Rohmeyer, Jeffrey Schmidt, Marcus H. Sachs and Joseph Weiss. Cyber Security Policy Guidebook is a popular science book, and chapter3describes the state of the practice in measuring cyber security, and discusses various approaches that have been used to determine whether the goals for cyber security have been met. As the source text of this translation project is an informative text, the translator chooses Peter Newmark’s theory on text analysis, and adopts different translation strategies to deal with difficulties such as vocabulary and terms and long sentences, which aims at achieving the communicative function in the target culture and providing some reference for the translation of this kind of article. This report is divided into four parts: chapter one is the report’s project introduction including project background, significance and report structure; chapter two presents the background of the original text containing the introduction of the author and the analysis of the source text; chapter three aims at analyzing translation difficulties and the translation methods; chapter four summarizes the lessons and enlightenment gained from the project.
