Dong Xi always takes rural writings and urban writings as his literary creations. In recent30years, Dong Xi has never stopped exploration in writing. He was constantly changing the understanding of history and reality. The changing also makes many influences to his main subjects, which makes his map of novels expand unceasingly. This article attempts to analyze how the. urban and rural experience influence his writings by his life experiences. Meanwhile on the basis of text interpretation, it will discuss his two transitions in his novels.The first chapter discusses the tradition of modern literary writing in urban and rural areas and position of Dong Xi’s literary creation. This part makes a lengthwise survey about that different generation writers express different positions in their urban and rural writing since20th century. Dong Xi has spent his childhood in the country and his adulthood in the city. The two different kinds of life experiences make him have special emotion to the city and country. He is eager to escape from the country but often miss it. There are full of desires to the city in his novels but he also criticizes it. The complexity of the urban and rural culture influenced the choice of his literary creation.The second chapter explains Dong Xi steps into the temple of literature with sorrow rethinks literature. The works, in this period, mainly show the historical trace of country suffering. Dong Xi builds up a map of the world, which is abounds of tribulation. It includes extreme terrible natural environment and humble rural customs. Due to the lake of substance, People who live in this area fall in endless black hole. Famine has become an unbearable weight in their life. In order to find the chance of survival in the suffering world, they manifest the craziness like "Yu Lian", even sacrifice their bodies and souls.The third chapter analyzes the first transition of Dong Xi’s literary creation, which is spatial displacement from the bitter fate in country to desire in city. Since the middle1990s, Dong Xi’s literary creation has begun to transform from depiction of country suffering life to video of multifarious city. The desire becomes the main line in his literary creation. He uses the plane consumption of sex and money to reconstruct consumerism of urban culture, and highlights the intrinsic relationship between desire and urban social structure, and shows human beings variation and emotional wasteland driven by the desire in city. It reflects the author’s mastery of urban cultural context and the pursuit of the spirit of the times.The fourth chapter narrates the second transition of Dong Xi’s literary creation, which is from the critique of contrast between country and city to the reflection of life in the absurd narrative. The novel Don’t Ask Me in2000as a symbol. Dong Xi starts to weaken the narrative background of urban and rural environment, and focus on the heart world of modern people. He is subtly aware of the restless and anxiety along with them and identity crisis accompanied by anxiety. Dong Xi questions and inspects modern people’s living circumstances and absurdity of life existence by his novels, which reflects the author’s thinking about individuals belongs to group life and culture and at the same time makes his works become more powerful and pervasive.
