In Jin Dynasty, the development of Quanzhen Daoism in Shandong districtplayed a very important role in the Quanzhen Daoism phylogeny. Since the beginningof Quanzhen by Wang Chongyang, Shandong had become an distirct where there wasmany activities of Quanzhen Daoism. Actually, the development of Quanzhen Daoismin Shandong district is the representative of its development in Jin Dynasty. In April,1167, Wang Chongyang burned his cottage in Zhongnan Liujiang and went toShandong to preach. In July of that year, he arrived in Ninghai and adopted Qiu Chuji,Tan Churui, Majue, Wang Chuyi, Hao Datong, Sun Buer and Liu Chuxuan as hisapprentices, who were called Seven Noble of Honors in Quanzhen Daoism. Then theyfounded five grass-roots organizations, such as Three Religions Seven NobleOrganization, Three Religions Golden Lotus Organization, Three Religions ThreeClean Organization, Three Religions Yuhua Organization, Three Religions EqualismOrganization, which were called Five Organizations in Three Counties. Though itoriginated in Shanxi, it flourished in Shandong district. The active center of QuanzhenDaoism varied according to different stages of its development. The early period isfrom1167to1197, Quanzhen Daoism is most active in Eastern Foreland of Shandong.This is the just beginning of Quanzhen Daoism. Its middle period is from1197to1219and this period was marked by Yuqing Temple in Weifang which was built byYin Zhiping. In this period, Quanzhen Daoism had great development in middledistrict of Shandong, owing to the political tolerance of Quanzhen Daoism from rulersof Jin Dynasty. The last period is from1210to1234, which saw the end of JinDynasty. In this period, Quanzhen Daoism had great development in the westerndistrict of Shandong, especially represented by Dongzhen Temple builted by CuiDaoyan and his apprentices who still had great influences in Yuan Dynasty. After that, the active center of Quanzhen Daoism began to move to the district of Mount Tai,which laid good foundation for its prosperity after Yuan Dynasty.
