Behavioral inhibitory control (BIC) is an important component in the system of executive function, which closely related to the individual survival and adaptation and so on. BIC refers to inhibit inappropriate behavior or reaction in a certain environment, such as inhibition to resist temptation, delayed gratification, motorial inhibition and impulse control. Studies have shown that there is a general gender difference in behavioral inhibitory control for human adults, and behavioral inhibitory control influenced substantially by unpleasant emotion. There is a viewpoint comes from self report by both gender and the daily social experience, that sexual behavior inhibitory control is different under the influence of anger, which as a kind of typical negative emotions. This paper focuses on the gender difference in behavioral inhibitory control under the influence of anger, secondly focus on the influence of anger trait to this difference, at last the essay is trying to do a tentative exploration in the emotional problems caused by different inhibition ability or anger trait. In view of the above research purposes, this study adopts a modified version of the Go/Nogo task which with cue and the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Anxiety Inventory in order to carry out the following two studies:the first research using event related potential (ERP) technology, request participants to complete Go/Nogo task that related to behavioral inhibition control, in order to ascertain the gender differences in inhibitory control ability of40subjects when they were affected by anger; the second research measures the74participants’ state-trait anger, depression and anxiety levels, in the meantime ask participants to complete Go/Nogo task as same the research one. This working aims to definite the anger trait influence on suppressing misconduct under angry situation and whether this effect can lead to different levels of depression and anxiety. Stimulus materials were emotional face images selected from Chinese Affective Picture System (CAPS). The results were as follows:1. In the experiment one, when the participants performed the Nogo task, there was an interaction effect between emotion and gender, the accurate rate of man was lower than women, but their RT reaction was faster than women;2. The ERP data shown that, the gender differences of behavioral inhibitory control was obvious in the anger context compared with neutral emotions, the specific performance was as follows:the interaction of the emotion and gender appeared in N2amplitude; the interaction effects between of stimulate type and gender emerged in anger condition, and man"s P3amplitude was larger than women in Go/Nogo task, but there was no this effect under neutral setting; the experiment two display that man"s commission RTs of behavior inhibitory control is significantly longer, than women, but there is no the same difference in the neutral situation;4.compared with male, the trait anger, anger in expression of female participants were significantly positive related to depression and anxiety;5. there was no correlation between both gender of state-trait anger expression, depression, anxiety levels and behavioral inhibitory control in angry situation. To summarize, compared with women, the behavior inhibitory control of male can be affected to a great extent under the anger circumstance, their inhibitory control processing need more cognitive effort, but its actual behavioral response tend to be more failure. Maybe, the reasons come from long-term biological inheritance and the social gender identity. On the other hand, comparatively speaking, the depression and anxiety of female are more likely to be affected by the angry expression styles; nevertheless men clearly manifest weak inhibitory control when they affected by anger stimulus; the relationship among trait anger, levels of depression, anxiety and the inhibition behavior under anger situation needs further discussion. The final conclusion of this paper is that gender differences exist in physiology and behavior reaction when participants completed behavior inhibitory control under the anger condition; there is no overwhelming evidence show that anger trait make a contribution to the gender difference. Further research on this issue should with an eye to three sides:experimental paradigm, the number of samples and psychological scale.
