With the development of resources science, resources flow has been evolved into its important and key research objective. With the changes of China’s social and economic demand targets, research on the process of natural resources flow has become a new perspective of resources science. The outcomes of a resource flow analysis provide an opportunity for a better understanding of how and where to target activities to manage material consumption and minimization. Oil is a strategic of social and economic development in China. The distribution inequality of society-economy and oil resources determines the regional flow of oil resources which becomes the focus of many countries and governments. Therefore, upon researching the spatial-temporal process and evolution of oil flow, there have been several important significances both in science and in fact, such including to hold the macro situation, to prepare for a depth analysis of its driving mechanism and to play a dominant guiding role of its reasonable management, optimum allocation and sustainable utilization.Because of the current situation of serious imbalance in China’s oil production-consumption, to be specific, the main oil-producing regions focus on Western and Northern China while the main oil-consuming regions focus on Eastern and Southern China, the basic spatial characteristics of crude oil flow in China is that crude oil flows both from Northern to Southern China and from Western to Eastern China upon a spatial mismatch of crude oil production-consumption. Meanwhile, in the long run, the spatial flow structure of crude oil in China is always changing due to the development of new oil-fields, the abandonment of old oil-fields, the improvement of crude oil transport corridors, reformation of crude oil circulation system and other aspects. On the basis of field theory of physic and existent researches, the characteristics of resources extensity are discussed and the concept of resources field is put forward. This paper takes oil flow in China as the research subjects, and takes Provincial-level administrative units as the notes of oil flow. Meanwhile, with the methods of literatures-summarization, data-analysis, statistical-analysis and spatial-analysis, this paper discusses the characteristics and law of oil flow among different provinces since1985to2009. There are5chapters in this paper. The first chapter of the research background was described, and the resources, energy and oil flow and research resource field are summarized; at the same time, the theoretical basis of this research, defines the research object, and selects five typical years from1985to2009as the time points. The second chapter introduces the related concept of this paper and theoretical basis, starting from the basic meaning of resource flow, further exploring the connotation, the characteristics of resource flows, and leads to discrimination of resource, resource potential concept. In the third chapter, the second chapter theoretical support, based on data of crude oil pipeline, pipeline network distance calculation of each feature point. On the basis of network input nodes and crude oil output, each year, the distance between the petroleum resource potential, calculation of province. The fourth chapter on the basis of the third chapter on the calculation result of resources potential, division of flow field in each feature point. Analysis of spatial range, the flow field of each feature point in the flow characteristic, internal and contact characteristics between other flow field, and the evolutional process of flow field structure over time and law. The fifth chapter summarizes the research findings and points out some related issues that worth further explore.
