Recently, as the growing demand for natural gas consumption, China’s natural gas industry has entered a fast development period. Numbers of long distance pipeline construction mileage has been greatly increased, related infrastructure constructions with rapid speed, especially for salt cavern gas storage. It is an efficient and reliable engineering for natural gas reserve and peak-shaving.China has not any experiences to learn from foreign, because our research and practice on salt cavern gas storage is being a little late and China’s geological conditions is much more different from overseas. Therefore, it is necessary to do more and more researches to bring them into practice. This thesis focuses on the economic indexes, natural gas storage capacity using system dynamic and orthogonal design based on the theory of economic management, operations research, system engineering, and statistics.Firstly, this thesis analyzes the mechanism of building storage, technology approach, and evaluation indexes. Then, cost model is built based on the theory of salt cavern gas storage. Secondly, this thesis simulates all factors which could impact the unit capacity of natural gas storage by using Vensim software, and form their complex relations. In order to derive the best capacity and the minimum costs. Thirdly, this thesis uses orthogonal experimental design to get the sensitivity degrees of all factors and to give the optimal cost of unit capacity. Lastly, this thesis gives some conclusions and suggestions to related officials and hopes that the research will help to China’s project for building salt cavern gas storage.
